Judge Dredd (rev TA1 7/12/92, location test)
Game Details
Description
Midway's Judge Dredd is an action game based on the classic British comic strip from 2000 AD. It never saw mass production since it failed its location test.
Players control Mega-City One lawman Judge Dredd, out to clear the streets of lawbreaking creeps. Up to three players can play simultaneously, each controlling a differently-colored Dredd. The game consists of several different types of levels: the first is a Final Fight-style scrolling beat'em up in which Dredd takes down foes with kicks and punches while moving towards the level exit, with several boss fights against the likes of comic characters like the Angel Gang and robot insurrection leader Precious Leglock. The second type of level is a target practice shooting gallery. Seeing Dredd from behind, players must move a crosshair to shoot at holograms. The third type is a side-scrolling platformer, where Dredd must navigate floating platforms and elevators while taking out robots with his lawgiver gun. The final type is a variant of the first, but instead of beating up enemies Dredd must shoot them, with the goal being to stop Block Warriors from firing a mega cannon before a timer runs out.
Visually, the game features digitized images of real actors and stop motion models for sprites combined with 3D-rendered backgrounds.
